Celebrate literary newness, adventure, beginnings

Local poet Finuala Dowling, author of Notes from the Dementia Ward, What Poets Need, Flyleaf and I flying, will read new poems as well as some old favourites.

Zimbabwean writer Annie Holmes will read from her short memoir, Good Red, published by the Canadian journal, Public.

Cathy Rose writes and teaches fiction in San Francisco. She will read her story “Buddha in a Box,” published in Nixon Under the Bodhi Tree and Other Buddhist Fiction.

Chicago native Peter Orner, now a professor of Creative Writing at San Francisco State University, will read from The Second Coming of Mavala Shikongo, a novel that draws on his teaching experiences in Namibia in the early 1990s.
